  1. What time are classes?
  2. How much are classes?
    • Prices vary based on the class you are taking. Adults classes will run year round, billed month to month. Our Children’s, Youth and Qigong classes will be offered on a term bases.
  3. The term has already started, can I join mid-stream?
    • Yes, you can join anytime. Please contact us and we will give you the pro-rated cost based on the remaining term.
  4. Can I do drop in?
    • Yes, we do have a Drop-in rate for Adult BJJ, Kung Fu and Qigong. Please see our store page for the specific prices.
  5. I work shift work or have irregular work hours, how important is attendance?
    • No problem, lots of us have irregular work hours and family responsibilities. Come to class whenever you can.
  6. What do I wear to class?
    • For BJJ, for your first class just wear an old t-shirt and shorts (with a drawstring). Within a month of joining the club we will expect you to purchase a club uniform or ‘Gi’.
    • For Kung Fu, please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes such as active wear (ie. track pants, T-shirt) and clean indoor trainers. Members will be expect to get a club uniform once they are established in the program.
  7. Are the ‘Gis’ or uniform required?
    • Yes, we expect you to buy a club uniform or ‘Gi’ within one month of joining the club. Gis come in a variety of colours, but you will also need at least one white club Gi for grading purposes. You are welcome to wear any other colour or branded Gis during regular classs.
    • For Mini Monkeys, the kids will need to wear a Gi but the parents do not as they will act as their training partner.
  8. Can I use an old Karate Gi instead?
    • No, different martial arts use different types of uniforms based on their purpose. You will need to have a BJJ specific Gi for this sport.
  9. How do I tie my belt?
  10. Do I have to be in shape to try jiu-jitsu?
    • You do not need to be in great shape, but you should be cleared by your doctor if you have old injuries or cardiovascular issues.
    • Jiu-jitsu is well designed for all ages, shapes, weights, and heights of people.
  11. Will I get hurt? Is it a dangerous sport?
    • First of all, there is no striking in jiu-jitsu (e.g. punching or kicking) so you don’t have to worry about that.
    • Based on our history, we experience way less injuries than other sports such as soccer, softball, or hockey.
    • Occasionally an accident happens but the vast majority are minor sprains.
  12. Do I have to wrestle with the opposite gender?
    • We want you to be comfortable with your training partner. You always have to right refuse a partner, or to sit-out and watch a specific drill if we don’t have an appropriate partner for you.
