Our Martial Arts Disciplines

At Hinton Martial Arts Academy, we offer world-class instruction in two respected and proven martial arts systems: Arashi Do Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and the Shaolin Temple Quanfa Institute (STQI) Kung Fu. Each of these disciplines brings its own unique set of skills, philosophies, and traditions to our academy. We are proud to offer these exceptional programs under the guidance of skilled instructors who are committed to delivering the highest level of martial arts education.

Arashi Do Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is one of the most dynamic martial arts systems in the world today, known for its emphasis on ground fighting, submissions, and the strategic use of leverage. BJJ is effective for self-defense and is a key component of mixed martial arts (MMA). At Hinton Martial Arts Academy, we operate as the Hinton branch of the Arashi Do Martial Arts family, the largest martial arts community in Alberta. As part of this community, we have access to a vast network of experienced instructors and practitioners, creating a supportive and highly skilled environment for our students.

Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program incorporates the Sylvio Behring Progressive System, a renowned methodology that emphasizes clear, structured techniques designed to build a strong foundation in positions, escapes, sweeps, and submissions. This system follows a curriculum that enables students, whether complete beginners or experienced practitioners, to develop technical proficiency and adapt to different self defense situations. Our program encourages personal growth and the development of a strong martial arts mindset, with opportunities to pursue both competition and self-defense goals. Students have access to a supportive and highly skilled environment, learning from experienced instructors and high-level practitioners.

Shaolin Temple Quanfa Institute (STQI) Kung Fu

Shaolin Kung Fu is one of the oldest and most respected martial arts systems in the world, originating from the Shaolin Temple in China. At Hinton Martial Arts Academy, we offer Kung Fu under the Shaolin Temple Quanfa Institute (STQI) banner, an organization dedicated to preserving and teaching authentic Shaolin martial arts. STQI Kung Fu emphasizes traditional Chinese martial arts techniques, including hand and weapon forms, as well as Qigong for energy cultivation.

Our Kung Fu program lineage is under that of Master Shi Guo Song, a renowned martial artist who has dedicated his life to the study and preservation of Shaolin martial arts. This program not only teaches powerful techniques for self-defense but also focuses on the spiritual and mental aspects of martial arts, including respect, perseverance, and humility. Students will learn both traditional and contemporary Kung Fu forms, including empty-hand techniques and various weapon forms such as staff, sword, and spear.

Kung Fu at HMAA is suitable for all ages and experience levels. We offer classes for children, teens, and adults, ensuring that everyone can experience the benefits of this ancient and revered martial art. Whether you’re interested in learning traditional forms, improving physical fitness, or developing mental discipline, our Kung Fu program offers something for everyone.
